Born outside of Vancouver, British Columbia and raised in Oakville, Ontario, Vanessa’s journey started in musical theatre. However, singing in front of crowds really set her soul on fire. With a lifelong love of country music impressed upon her by family (several family members are established musicians), Carter embarked on her own musical journey, signing her first record deal in 2011 with a Canadian independent label, as the female half of the successful duo Autumn Hill.

That learning experience gave Carter much needed direction and as the duo disbanded in 2012, she set out on her own. She put her band together and began performing wherever she could, developing her unique sound and identity as a solo artist. In 2016, she co-wrote and released her first five-song, self-titled EP, while continuing to play many shows and opening for national acts like Kira Isabella, George Canyon, Brett Kissel, The Band Perry, and Chase Rice, among others. To this day, Vanessa appreciates those fun and hardworking years,
